Open the account after the address exists. Not instead of it.

A Saudi salary needs a Saudi account. The branch will not invent the iqama, the SIM, or the national address you have not registered yet.

Riyadh towers in the evening, the city where most new residents open the account

The first salary is the moment a new resident discovers the bank is not a shop that sells accounts to anyone with a passport and a smile. Private-sector pay in Saudi Arabia is supposed to land in a local account, through the wage system the employer already uses. Until that account exists, HR has nowhere honest to send the money, and you have nowhere honest to receive it. That is the whole problem. It is not a mystery product.

People still treat the branch like a favour they can hurry. They go on a Thursday afternoon with a hotel address, a tourist SIM, and a cousin who says he knows the manager. They come back with a ticket number and a story. The account is not open. This note is the order that avoids that afternoon. It is not a ranking of banks, and it is not a form we can submit for you. KSA GUIDE does not open accounts, does not take salary letters, and does not sit in the queue.

Banks do not share one checklist. What Al Rajhi asks for on a given Tuesday is not what SNB or Riyad Bank asks for, and a branch in north Riyadh can be stricter than the one in the mall. Read the list on that bank’s own site the morning you go, then believe the officer if the site is behind. The regulator is the Saudi Central Bank, SAMA. SAMA does not open the account either. The branch does.

What almost every counter asks to see

The names of the buttons change. The pile of paper does not, not really. If any one of these is missing, go home and get it. Standing at the counter will not grow it.

The iqama, not a visit visa

A resident current account is built on the iqama. The card, or the digital record the officer can actually read, is the document. A visit visa, a tourist eVisa, or a promise that the iqama is “with immigration” is a different conversation, and many branches will end it in one sentence. If your company says they cannot pay you until the account exists, and the iqama does not exist yet, the blockage is the residency, not the bank. Shouting at a teller does not print an iqama. There is a separate note on what to read on Absher once the card is real: the first week on Absher.

A mobile number in your name

The bank will send codes. Those codes must arrive on a SIM registered to the iqama, not on the airport tourist line and not on the shop’s phone. If the officer asks you to read a code out to him so he can type it, you are the one holding the phone, and you are the one who sees what he typed. Do not hand the handset over. The difference between a visitor SIM and a resident SIM is the whole of the SIM note.

A national address for a door you sleep behind

Most resident files stall on the address. The short code from Saudi Post, four letters and four numbers, is what they mean. A hotel for the first week is not that code. A friend’s villa is not that code unless you live there and he wants your bank mail. Register the real flat first. The way to do that, and the way not to drop the pin on the wrong tower, is in the national address note. If the building is new and the map has no pin, tell the bank the address is not ready. A made-up code is a second visit with a worse explanation.

  • Iqama, and the passport if the name on the iqama still argues with the name on the passport.
  • The SIM that receives your own codes.
  • The national address short code, and the proof from Saudi Post if they ask for paper.
  • A salary letter or contract HR has actually signed, with the figure they intend to pay, not the figure you hope to negotiate later.
  • The employer’s commercial registration or a letter on letterhead, if that branch has started asking for it this month. Ask before you take a number.

Ask HR which bank they already pay

This is the question people skip because choosing a bank feels like choosing a life. It is usually choosing a payroll file. Many companies already run wages through one bank. If yours does, opening a beautiful account at a different bank across the city does not move the salary. HR will tell you to open the one they use, or they will tell you any Saudi IBAN is fine. Those are different answers. Get the answer in writing, even if the writing is a short email, before you spend a morning in the wrong queue.

When any IBAN will do

Then you pick a bank you can reach without a car you have not bought, with an app in a language you can read at midnight, and a branch that is open on the day your iqama card tends to be in your pocket. “The one my cousin uses” is a weak reason if the cousin lives in Dammam and you live past the airport in Riyadh. A salary account is a pipe. The pipe should be near you when the card fails on a Thursday.

The letter, not a screenshot of the offer

Banks like a salary letter because the offer email you forwarded is not their document. Ask HR for the letter on the day the iqama is in hand, not the day you are already at the branch. Include the job title, the date you started, and the monthly figure. If the figure on the letter and the figure on the contract disagree, fix that with HR before the bank copies the wrong one into a profile you will be explaining for a year.

What you are given, and what you are not

On a good day you leave with an account number, an IBAN that starts with SA, and a debit card or a promise that the card will arrive at the national address. That IBAN is the line you send to HR. Photograph it for yourself. Do not post it in a group of twenty colleagues “so everyone has it.” Payroll needs it. The group does not.

A debit card is not a credit card

The first piece of plastic is almost always a debit card on the mada network, spending what is already in the account. A credit card is a later argument, about salary and about how long you have been in the country. Do not sign a card application you did not ask for because it was stapled under the account form. Read the second page. If the monthly fee is not a number you recognise, do not initial it in a hurry to get out before prayer.

The app, the same day

Download the bank’s own app from the official store, while you are still in the branch if the officer will watch you succeed once. Log in yourself. Set a password you have not used for Absher and have not used for the SIM. Turn on the alerts. Then log out of any tablet the branch asked you to try it on. A demonstration device is not your phone.

The people waiting outside the branch

Riyadh branches collect helpers the way hospitals collect them. A man will offer to speed the queue, translate the form, or “know someone inside.” Translation, if you truly cannot read the Arabic total, can be a fair ten minutes. The rest of the offer is how strangers end up with your salary letter and a photo of the iqama.

  • You can let someone point at a word. You type it.
  • You never hand over the phone when a code arrives.
  • You never leave the iqama overnight so they can “come early and take a number.”
  • You never install a remote-viewing app so a helper can finish the form from his car.

If the officer himself asks you to wait while compliance looks at the file, that wait is normal. New iqamas get looked at. A helper who says he can skip compliance is selling a story. Compliance is the point of the hour you are losing.

A morning that usually works

Do the other errands on earlier days. SIM first. Absher opened by you, so you know the iqama date. Flat signed, and one night slept there so you know the entrance. National address registered to that entrance. Salary letter in the bag. Then the bank, in the morning, at a branch your employer already named if they have a payroll bank.

Take a number. Give them the iqama, the code, the letter. Read the IBAN back. Send that IBAN to HR from your own email, not from the helper’s phone. Ask when the first salary can physically arrive. Some companies cut off the payroll list a week before payday. Missing that list means the money waits until the next cycle, which is unpleasant and not the bank’s fault.

When you get home, check the app. Check that the national address on the profile is the one you registered, not the hotel the officer typed from an old form. If it is the hotel, correct it before the card is posted. Cards do not chase you across the city. The sequence of the whole first month, of which this morning is one piece, sits in the first-month note.

What we will not do with your file

Do not send a photo of the iqama, the salary letter, or a screenshot of the IBAN and ask this desk to “see if the account is correct.” We will not open it, store it, or forward it. If a branch refused you and you want to know which note on this site is the nearest, describe the refusal in ordinary words on the contact page. The refusal is still solved at the bank, or at HR, by you.

We are not SAMA, not your employer, and not the branch. A minimum balance, a fee, or a card offer that a friend got last year is not a rule. The screen in front of the officer is the rule for that hour.

Conclusion

Open a Saudi account when the iqama, the SIM, and the national address are already yours, and after HR has said which bank can actually receive the salary. Take the letter. Read the IBAN. Keep the codes on your own phone. Refuse the man outside who can “finish it tonight.” The account is a pipe for wages. It is not a favour, and it is not a form this website can sign.

Questions people actually ask

Can I open a Saudi bank account on a visit visa?

A normal resident account sits on an iqama. A visit visa is a different request. Many branches refuse it, or they offer something too thin to receive a salary. If the company cannot pay you until an account exists, the missing piece is usually the residency. A second visit to the branch does not print the iqama.

Which Saudi bank should a new resident choose?

Ask the employer before you choose. Payroll often already runs through one bank, and a different IBAN will not receive the wage. If they will pay any Saudi account, pick a branch you can reach and read that bank’s list on the day you go. This site does not rank banks, and a cousin’s bank in another city is not a reason.

Why did they take my papers and still not open it?

Usually the national address is still the hotel, the mobile number is not in your iqama name, or the salary letter is not the letter HR signs. Sometimes compliance simply has not finished looking at a new iqama. The officer’s screen is the list. A man outside the branch cannot change that screen.
